WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Assistant Secretary of State Roberta Jacobson will travel to Havana on March 15 to discuss with her Cuban counterpart Josefina Vidal re-establishing diplomatic relations, the US State Department said in a press release on Friday.
“Assistant Secretary Jacobson and Director General [Josefina] Vidal will continue discussions of re-establishing diplomatic relations and re-opening embassies,” the press release said.
The parties last met in February in Washington, DC. After the talks, Vidal said the United States assured the Cuban delegation that they were reviewing Cuba being listed on the US State Department’s Sponsors of Terrorism list.
US President Barack Obama announced at the end of 2014 his new policy to normalize relations between Washington and Havana, which includes easing travel and trade restrictions on the island nation, and reopening a US embassy in Cuba.
