WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — St. Louis, Missouri police are following several leads to find the person responsible for shooting and wounding two Ferguson police officers earlier in the week, St. Louis Police Chief Jon Belmar told reporters during a press conference.
The two police officers were shot on Thursday morning during protests in Ferguson and sustained serious injuries. One of them was shot in the shoulder and the other in the face.
“Detectives are working on this investigation around the clock, they will not rest until we get to the point where we have a conclusion regarding this investigation,” Belmar said.
Belmar explained that the St. Louis Police Department has reviewed most of the evidence and law enforcement have a “pretty good idea” of where the shots were fired, but would not provide any other information on any leads or the investigation.
The Ferguson protests began after the city’s police chief Thomas Jackson resigned following a critical US Department of Justice (DOJ) report, which detailed that Ferguson’s police and municipal court racially profiled African-Americans violating their constitutional rights.
