“The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms today’s deadly terrorist attack at the National Bardo Museum in Tunis, where gunmen killed 19 people and wounded more than 20 others,” Kerry stated. “We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims’ families and loved ones.”

A group of gunmen disguised as soldiers burst into the museum earlier in the day and took a group of tourists hostage. The hostages were released in a special police operation that left a Tunisian serviceman and two attackers dead.
Kerry praised the Tunisian authorities’ rapid response, and their efforts to deal with the hostage situation as well as to restore calm.
“The United States stands with the Tunisian people at this difficult time and continues to support the Tunisian government’s efforts to advance a secure, prosperous and democratic Tunisia,” Kerry concluded.
A total of 200 people were in the museum at the time of the attack, according to the radio station, including visitors from Spain, France, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom.
Earlier on Wednesday, the authorities of Russia, Italy, Spain, Poland and the European Union also condemned the terrorist attack.
