“Air pollution levels are expected to remain Moderate or High today across Wales, Northern Ireland and many parts of England under high pressure and light winds,” DEFRA said Thursday.
Express.co.uk said that in the morning air pollution levels in London were already three times higher than the recommended European Union limit.
According to DEFRA, the current levels of air pollution are especially dangerous for people with respiratory problems and heart conditions: today they need to consider reducing the level of physical activity or even staying indoors.
Health organizations such as Asthma UK advised those with asthma to carry inhalers on Thursday. Even those without health problems could feel the effects of air pollution with sore throats and itchy eyes.
According to DEFRA, the smog came to the United Kingdom from Northern France. The situation is expected to improve by the weekend.
