"While I suppose this means I’ll spend this Easter in Sedona rather than Siberia, I couldn’t be more proud of being sanctioned by Vladimir Putin," McCain said in the statement.
More than 200 politicians and officials from the United States and the European Union have been included in the list of foreign nationals who may be barred from entering Russia, a source close to Russia’s Foreign Ministry told the Izvestia newspaper on Thursday.
The United States leads Russia’s stop list with more than 60 US citizens included in it, compared to nine individuals in the 2014 sanctions list.
The updated version, according to the source, includes US House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, the US President’s Deputy Assistant Caroline Atkinson, advisers Daniel Pfeiffer and Benjamin Rhodes, as well as Senators John McCain and Bob Menendez.
