WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will meet with US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter on Monday and will address US service members and veterans who have served in Afghanistan, US Department of Defense said in a statement.
“Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will host President Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, and other senior members of the Afghan government on March 23 at 8 a.m. at a ceremony in the Pentagon Courtyard,” the statement, released on Thursday, said.
During their trip, Ghani and Abdullah will also meet with the US Secretary of State John Kerry at Camp David.
They will discuss a range of issues including security, economic development and US support for the Afghan-led reconciliation process, according to the US State Department.
US President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with Ghani at the White House on March 24.
The Afghan visit comes nearly three months after the US-led NATO mission ended combat operations in Afghanistan.
