MOSCOW (Sputnik) Moscow is calling on the sides of the Yemeni conflict to stop all military action, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

The statement came after the meeting of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov with Yemeni President's chief of staff Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak and Yemeni Foreign Minister Riyadh Yassin on the sidelines of the March 28 Arab League summit in Egypt.

"Russia expressed deep concern about the latest developments in Yemen and once again called on all sides of the conflict to cease any military action," the ministry said.

The ministry urged for a political dialogue to settle the conflict, with the participation of all political and religious groups in Yemen.

The participants of the meeting expressed their willingness to continue Russian-Yemeni political contacts, including those aimed at stabilizing the situation in Yemen.

On Saturday, Bogdanov said that the conflicting sides in the Yemeni conflict had addressed Moscow asking for help in resolving the situation in the country.

Yemen is being torn by the confrontation between Houthi rebels and loyalists of ousted President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who has fled the country amid hostilities.

On Wednesday, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition of countries launched airstrikes on Houthi positions in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa following a request for military aid from Hadi.
