LAUSANNE (Sputnik) – The P5+1 group and Iran agreed on all key aspects and are due to start drafting preliminary deal on Tehran’s nuclear program, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.
"We can quite certainly say that on all the key aspects of final settlement of this problem, the ministers have reached principal consent that will be, hopefully in the next hours, maybe a day, put on the paper. The experts were tasked with this," Lavrov told reporters Wednesday.
Lavrov also said that the preliminary agreement on Iran’s nuclear program will include verification mechanisms guaranteeing peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuke and stipulate lifting sanctions.
Lavrov said that although the experts of the P5+1 and Iran started to draft the preliminary nuclear agreement a lot more work lies further ahead.
"It will not mean the end of the work, it will mean that we have fulfilled the obligations we undertook in November — to form a political framework of all political aspects of the problem and then, by the end of June as we agreed, the experts will be working on technical details which will require quite serious efforts, because as you know the devil is in detail," he said, adding that nuclear problem requires most of the attention.
The P5+1 group of international mediators, comprising Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, the United States and Germany, and Iran are holding talks in Switzerland on Tehran's uranium enrichment program.
The negotiating parties are expected to work out a preliminary agreement on Wednesday. A comprehensive deal ensuring the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear activities is due to be achieved by July 2015.
The agreement could result in easing or lifting the international sanctions in exchange for curbs on Tehran's nuclear research and increased monitoring of nuclear facilities.
