It is confirmed that French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius is about to arrive at the P5+1 talks with Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program in Lausanne, Switzerland.

LAUSANNE (Sputnik) — French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius is about to arrive at the P5+1 talks with Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program in Lausanne, a high profile source has informed Sputnik.

Asked to confirm whether Fabius was going to rejoin the talks in about half an hour, the source in the French delegation told Sputnik on Wednesday evening that the information was correct.

Earlier on Wednesday, the head of the French delegation at the Iran talks, Nicolas de Riviere told reporters that Fabius was "most likely" going to arrive at the talks Wednesday night.

Riviere told Sputnik that the presence of the French foreign minister at the talks in Lausanne will benefit the negotiation process.

The P5+1 group of international mediators, comprising Russia, the United States, France, China, the United Kingdom and Germany, has been negotiating with Iran on limiting its uranium enrichment program, fearing Tehran is developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear program.

The March 31 deadline for a broad political framework agreement between Iran and the P5+1 passed on Tuesday, but negotiators agreed to continue talks in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Wednesday.

The deadline for a final comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program has been set for July 1, 2015.
