Victory of Labour Party in UK Elections Means More Spending - Conservatives
MOSCOW (Sputnik), Yulia Shamporova – The Labour Party left Britain’s economy in a mess five years ago, and the Conservatives saved it by cutting the deficit in half and instituting an income tax cut, a spokesman for ruling Conservative Party told Sputnik Thursday.

“Conservatives have been working to a clear plan to put things right. Over the last five years we’ve seen the deficit halved, income tax cut for 26 million people, the state pension increased, benefits capped to reward hardworking people, and 1,000 jobs created every single day,” the spokesman said.

The UK general election is scheduled for May 7, 2015. British citizens will elect representatives to sit in the House of Commons, the country's lower house of parliament, for five-year terms.

The Labour and Conservative parties are major rivals in the upcoming election, with a YouGov Sunday poll revealing that 36 percent of those voters polled backing Labour and 32 percent of the poll respondents supporting the Conservative Tories.
