Speaking at the ceremony, President of South Ossetia Leonid Tibilov called the parliamentary session “historic", adding that the treaty was a document of strategic scale that will significantly strengthen security in South Ossetia and give a new impetus to social and economic development of the republic.
Chairman of the South Ossetia Parliament, Anatoly Bibilov, said that the parliament, together with the executive branch, will do all it takes for the ratified treaty to function to its full potential.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov signed the Treaty of Alliance and Integration between the two states on March 18.
The treaty stipulates the creation of a unified region of defense and security, freedom of movement between the two states, the integration of the customs bodies, expanded cooperation between the two countries’ interior ministries, and other social issues.
