KIEV (Sputnik) — At least four Ukrainian servicemen have been killed during a truck explosion near the eastern Ukrainian town of Shchastya, a spokesman of Lugansk regional administration said Sunday.
"A command-detonated landmine was laid near the town of Shchastya on the bridge across the river Siverskyy Donets. The truck with soldiers of the 92nd brigade was blown up… Four people have been killed, the number of injured is being specified," Yaroslav Galas told the Ukrainian Independent Information Agency (UNIAN).
Large swaths of land in Ukraine's eastern regions have been covered with landmines after Kiev launched a military operation against the independence supporters in Donbas in April 2014.
The conflict has claimed the lives of more than 6,000 people, according to the UN estimates.
In mid-February, the leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine worked out a deal in Minsk, Belarus, aimed at putting an end to the military conflict between Kiev forces and the eastern Ukraine's militia.
