Some 57 percent of those polled for the banking chain said they were not saving to own their own home, preferring to rent. The percentage of those in the age group who are intending to buy a home dropped six percent in 2014, to 43 percent, according to the research.
The main reason to give up the hope of owning one's own home is the size of the deposit, cited by 57 percent of the interviewed. High property prices and low income gathered 56 and 53 percent respectively.
Over 80 percent of people between the age of 20 and 45 living in London say they will never be able to buy a place to live.
The authors of the report urged UK authorities to raise the quantity of affordable houses expected to be built under the national house-building plan by 2025.
The report was carried out in part with UK research company Populus, between February 19 and March 3. Over 8,000 people between 20 and 45 years old were interviewed for the research, alongside 1,000 parents.
