One of Opposition Leaders Notes Progress in Intra-Syrian Talks in Moscow
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Points, agreed at the talks, reportedly stipulate that settlement of the Syrian crisis should be reached by "political means on the grounds of consensus, based on the principles of the Geneva communiqué issued on June 30, 2012".

One of the points calls on the international community to "exert serious and immediate pressure" on all regional and international actors, "that contribute to the Syrian bloodshed." The UN Security Council, in particular, should adopt a resolution on the fight against terrorism, blocking extremists’ recruiting, funding and weapons supply routes to Syria.

The sides have agreed that the results of any political process in Syria should be based on the "will of the people," which will be expressed through democratic means and should represent a consensus between all components of Syrian society.

In addition, the need of immediate and total lifting of all economic sanctions against Syria was reportedly mentioned.

Syria Approves Civil War Negotiation Plan Proposed by Russia - Source

On Thursday, a source at the talks from the Syrian opposition told RIA Novosti that a joint statement would be issued by negotiating parties on Friday.

The Russian capital is hosting the second round of talks between Syrian leadership and its fragmented opposition Monday through Thursday. The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, as well as UN special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura, has declined invitations to participate in the talks.

The parties first met in the Russian capital in late January to discuss a political framework for settling the Syrian crisis. The warring sides worked out the so-called Moscow Principles, outlining a political platform for national reconciliation.

The Syrian civil war began in 2011 following an anti-government uprising. The war has taken over 200,000 lives, and displaced millions, according to UN estimates.
