MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 10 Colombian soldiers were killed and 17 were injured in a clash with the country's Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) amid peace talks by the conflicting sides in Cuba, media reported.
Following the Wednesday's clash, the Colombian armed forces launched an attack against "a strategic FARC rebel position," a military source told the BBC.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos lifted the month-long suspension of bombing by the government forces against the rebels Wednesday.
In March, Santos ordered a temporary halt to the bombing after the FARC forces declared a unilateral ceasefire December 2014 and stood by it.
Military confrontation between FARC and Colombian authorities has been ongoing since 1964. As many as 220,000 people have been killed as a result of the armed conflict.
The two sides have been holding peace talks in Cuba since 2012.
