MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova – Pakistan is looking forward to Russia playing a larger role in international, as well as regional politics, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif told Sputnik in an interview Thursday.
“We look forward to Russian role in the regional and international politics,” Asif said in an interview with Sputnik on the sidelines of a global security conference in Moscow.
According to Asif, Islamabad has stressed that the world has become unipolar in the last few decades, which contributed to global destabilization.
“We look forward to a world scene, which is multipolar, which will provide balance and equilibrium in international situations,” Asaif said.
Asif also told Sputnik that Pakistan discussed with the Russian side efforts aimed at tackling terrorism.
“I briefed the Russian side about our efforts, the war against terrorism, which we are conducting these days in Pakistan in a very large way. We have a very firm commitment in fighting terrorism,” Asif said.
He said that he discussed a variety of present day security challenges with Sergei Shoigu.
“We spoke about the menace of drug trafficking also, and we discussed about the maritime piracy also, the piracy on the high seas. These are the common issues and obviously we discussed issues which are of mutual concern to our countries, like … in Iraq, in Syria or Yemen, the terrorist issues,” Asif stated.
The Moscow security conference was organized by the Russian Defense Ministry to rebuild trust in the military-to-military interaction between states and discuss joint efforts to counter terrorism.
Defense ministers of Russia, Pakistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Argentina, Indonesia, Iran, Serbia and South Africa, as well as heads of international organizations and non-profits are participating in the event.
