WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Colombia on April 27-28 to discuss US-Colombian relations and the ongoing peace process in the country, US State Department said in a statement on Thursday.
“While in Colombia, Deputy Secretary Blinken will… meet with senior Colombian officials to discuss the ongoing peace process as well as other key bilateral and regional issues,” the statement stated.
The Colombian government has been engaged in talks with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group since 2012 in an attempt to put an end to a standoff that dates back to in 1964.
Blinken will also lead the US delegation to the US-Colombia High-Level Partnership Dialogue and the Steering Committee for the US-Colombia Action Plan on Racial and Ethnic Equality, according to the State Department.
The State Department explained that following the trip to Colombia, Blinken will visit Mexico to discuss cross-border migration and ongoing security and economic partnership between the United States and Mexico.
