Nazarbayev Confirms Visit to Moscow for Victory Parade May 9
08:33 GMT 27.04.2015 (Updated: 09:59 GMT 27.04.2015) Nearly nine million Kazakhs were called to duty during World War II, and only half of them returned home.
ASTANA (Sputnik) – Incumbent Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has officially confirmed his attendance at the Victory Parade in Moscow on May 9.
“I will attend the Victory Parade on May 9, on the May 7, we have the anniversary of the founding of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces and we’ll [also] have a parade,” Nazarbayev said.
Nazarbayev said that between eight and nine million Kazakhs were called to duty during World War II, and only half of them returned home.
Russia has invited a number of world leaders to attend the Victory Parade in Moscow in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. The parade will be the largest one in Russia's modern history.
Earlier in April, Kremlin Chief of Staff Sergei Ivanov said that heads of at least 25 countries have already accepted Moscow’s invitation to join celebrations. A full list of participants is expected to be revealed by the end of the month.
