CAIRO (Sputnik) – Threats from US officials to Iran elevates risks on talks over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei told Alalam television Wednesday.

According to media reports, Khamenei said that recently two US officials threatened to take military action against Iran, but did not give any further details.

"The people of Iran will not participate in talks under threats. The United States is no less in need of these talks than Iran," Khamenei said.

Iran Nuclear Deal Threatens US Sponsored Gulf Arms Race - Media
On April 2, Iran and a group of six international negotiators, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France and Germany, agreed on a framework for a deal on Tehran's nuclear program, which would ease sanctions against Iran in exchange for more transparent nuclear activities.

The nuclear talks are expected to resume on May 12 in Vienna, Austria. On May 15, the political leaders of the P5+1 countries are set to join the talks.

A final agreement on Iran's nuclear program should be worked out by July.
