SANAA (Sputnik) – The warring sides in the Yemeni conflict have managed to reach a truce, aided by local tribes, in the city of Marib, a local source told Sputnik on Friday.
"A ceasefire agreement was reached with the mediation of a local tribe in the city of Marib. Both Houthis and the soldiers loyal to the ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh on one side, and the militants of Al-Islah [a Yemeni opposition party], as well as the tribal troops who support President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi," the source said.
Yemen has been in a state of turmoil in recent months since Houthi rebels took control of large areas of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
In late March, a coalition of Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against Houthi positions at ousted President Hadi's request, who had fled Yemen due to the worsening hostilities.
The coalition announced the end to its airstrikes in late April, yet the attacks continued into May.
