The incident involving a US-manufactured UH-60L Black Hawk took place 21 kilometers (13 miles) north of La Uribe, a town in the Meta Department, at approximately 14:40 (7:40 p.m. GMT). An investigation into the crash by a commission under the Air Assault Aviation Division is currently underway.
"We send our condolences to the families and friends of these soldiers who gave their lives in the line of duty," the statement said.
The deceased were identified as Captain Fabian Santamaria, who piloted the rotorcraft, First Corporal Rodriguez Cristian Torres, as well as soldiers Jaime Romero Peña and Freddy García Diaz.
Lieutenant Alexander Carreño Corporal Morales and Diego Fandiño, injured in the incident, were transported from the crash site and are reported to be in stable condition.
The helicopter was on an airlift support duty at the time of the incident.
