MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Federal investigators do not suspect terrorists to be behind the deadly crash of a passenger train that derailed north of Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, CNN said early Wednesday.

According to the media outlet, the FBI said there was no indication that the derailment was an act of terrorism. A team of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are due to arrive at the site later on Wednesday.

The Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188 carrying 238 passengers and five crew members was en route from Washington, DC to New York City when it derailed and rolled onto its side, killing five people.

Some 140 people have been admitted to hospitals for treatment or evaluation, the USA Today said. Six are reported to be in critical condition.

Over 200 officers from the Philadelphia Police Department have been dispatched to the scene to assist the search and rescue operation.

Speaking at a press conference, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter described the scene as a "disastrous mess." He said all seven cars of the train had come off the tracks and were scattered around.
