WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US citizen Michael Grismore pleaded guilty at court in the US state of Georgia on several counts of sexual abuse against his Russian-born adopted daughter and received a ten-year sentence of which he will serve three years, Chief Assistant to the District Attorney Rachelle Carnesale said.
“The trial was today, and he pleaded guilty today,” Carnesale told RIA Novosti on Monday, adding that Grismore has been taken into custody.
Carnesale explained a civil order was filed against Grismore to prevent any further contact between him and his adopted daughter “for the rest of the young lady’s life.”
The Russia-born girl was adopted by US national Marta Blanford in 2001, but she gave up her parental rights in 2009. The child was then adopted by Blanford’s sister and her husband, Michael Grismore.
In 2010, Grismore was arrested on suspicion of beating and raping his adoptive daughter after her school teachers first heard about the incident.
Russia’s Investigative Committee, the main federal investigating authority in the country, also opened a case against Grismore.
The girl is undergoing treatment at a mental facility.
