NEW YORK (Sputnik) — New York City will repave a record 1200 miles of streets by June 2015 following the harsh winters that have affected much of northeastern United States, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement in Thursday.
“These especially cold winters have been hard on New York City’s streets, and we need to invest big to get them back in good repair,” de Blasio stated. “The commitment we’re making is the biggest in 25 years, and it’s something every New Yorker who walks, drives or bikes will see and feel firsthand.”
The Mayor added that the Department of Transportation has already repaired over 327,000 potholes since mid-December 2014.
New York State recently had its 17th coldest winter since 1895, according to The Weather Channel.
