MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Riyadh is interested in a political dialogue with Moscow to close gaps in disputed issues, Saudi ambassador to Russia Abdulrahman Rassi said Friday.
"We are interested in intensifying political dialogue and political consultations with Russia on various issues, especially on those, where sides have different positions," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Rassi underscored that both sides are making efforts to build relations on promoting and developing cooperation, including in the trade, economic and investment areas, achieved over the past years.
In April 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree lifting a ban on the S-300 delivery, which was put on hold after the UN Security Council issued an arms embargo on Tehran due to nuclear weapon concerns.
"As for Iran, we believe that it could also contribute to development of positive trends in the region if it was able to do so, but it was, on the contrary, a part of the alarming elements that create instability in many countries," Rassi said.
Moscow lifted the ban shortly after the P5+1 group of international negotiators and Iran reached a framework for a nuclear energy agreement, allowing a gradual lifting of anti-Iran sanctions.
