WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The framework agreement for a deal to ensure peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program has already proved to be effective, US President Barack Obama told the Adas Israel Congregation during the celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month on Friday.
“The deal that we already reached with Iran, has already halted or rolled back parts of Iran’s nuclear program,” Obama said. “Now we are seeking a comprehensive solution.”
On April 2, Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers, including China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, agreed during the negotiations in Lausanne on a framework for an agreement on Iran's nuclear program.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu argued, however, that the deal based on the proposed framework would threaten Israel.
President Obama underscored in his speech that he will not accept a bad deal with Iran and said the US commitment to Israel’s security will always be unshakable.
The deadline for the final comprehensive agreement with Tehran is set for June 30.
