The ferry crossing between Russia's Crimea and Krasnodar regions will eliminate long lines by increasing the number of ferries in service.

The Kerch ferry crossing between the Crimean Peninsula and mainland Russia will eliminate long lines for tourists by increasing its capacity to 10 ferries, Head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov told journalists on Saturday.

A total of six ferries are currently used at the crossing, an one more is expected to begin service within a week. Long lines at the crossing created difficulties for locals and travelers after Crimea's reunification with Russia in 2014 due to an influx in traffic.

"A total of ten ferries will operate. All necessary infrastructure in the ports is 95 percent complete," Aksyonov said.

Aksyonov inspected the ferry crossing on Saturday together with the governor of neighboring Krasnodar territory on Saturday.

The site preparation for a bridge across the Kerch Strain is also complete, Russian Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov said on May 18. The contract to build the combined road railways bridge was awarded in February and the project is expected to be completed by December 2018.
