GENEVA (Sputnik) — The next round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries on Tehran’s controversial nuclear energy program will take place in Vienna on June 4, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday.
"It would be next Thursday in Vienna," Araghchi told RIA Novosti when asked about a possible date for the next meeting.
Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with US State Secretary John Kerry in Geneva.
"It was very true and intense discussion and we decided to continue next week in Vienna," Araghchi said.
The United States is one of the nuclear powers in the P5+1 group that also includes China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and Germany.
The negotiators are working until the end-of-June deadline to sign a comprehensive plan of action ensuring the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
Last month, Tehran agreed to cut back its uranium enrichment as part of a framework deal that would usher in the removal of energy-related sanctions from Iran.
