WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A newly emerged photo depicting the dead body of 33-year-old IT specialist Jermaine McBean, who was shot and killed by police in Broward County, Florida in 2013, has raised questions about the incident, according to local media reports.
A police officer killed McBean as he was walking home with a newly purchased BB gun.
Prior to the shooting, the officer said he repeatedly asked McBean to drop the weapon, but he allegedly ignored the order. The officer swore under oath that nothing prevented McBean from hearing the order.
The revelation posed questions about the course of the tragic events, including the reasons why the earphones were later found in the victim’s pocket.
McBean’s mother, Jennifer Young, said she was saddened by the photo and thinks the police lied to her, local media reported.
At present, the case is still being investigated by prosecutors.
In recent months, the United States has seen mass protests over excessive use of force by police, after a series of fatal incidents involving mostly, but not exclusively, unarmed African Americans.
