About a hundred activists in military fatigues stormed into the office of the regional committee of the Communist Party late on Friday, hoisting the Ukrainian flag and burning Communist paraphernalia.
The leader of the Communist faction in the city legislature, Olexandr Paradovsky, condemned the incident as a hostile takeover.
The attackers insisted that they had taken the building “under protection” and that they had “relevant documents” issued by the owner of the premises, the first secretary of the regional committee of the Communist Party, Yevhen Tsarkov.
Olexandr Paradovsky said Tsarkov had issued no such papers and had requested no “protection” from anyone.
He promised to ask the local law enforcement officials to intervene and restore justice.
