BERLIN (Sputnik) — At the congress of the German Social Democratic Party in Berlin, Frank-Walter Steinmeier said:
"We must make every effort to keep Greece in the Eurozone."
Steinmeier also expressed hope that the next round of the EU-Greece negotiations would not fail.
On Thursday, senior EU officials formally discussed possible scenarios for Greece's debt crisis outcome, naming three of them. The prospects included extension of the existing bailout program, Greece's default and, as the least likely variant, a successful cash-for-reform deal.
Earlier this week, one of Greece's three key lenders, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) left the talks, citing a lack of progress.
Greece's total debt is currently estimated at $350 billion, with some $270 billion owed to the three of its major creditors — the European Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the IMF.
