MANAMA (Sputnik) — Nearly 40 suicide bombers monthly penetrate into Iraq from abroad, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi said Monday.
"At present, we really suffer from militants and terrorists, who penetrate Iraq from abroad… On average, 40 suicide bombers, who are the cause of the deaths of many innocent Iraqis, enter the country every month," Abadi was quoted as saying by Al Iraqiya satellite TV network Monday.
Security situation in Iraq deteriorated in recent months, triggered, mainly, by the activity of Islamist militants.
ISIL militant group has taken control over large parts of Syria and Iraq since 2014, attracting thousands of foreigners to join their ranks.
According to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), over 30,000 militants are believed to be currently fighting for ISIL.
