WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are investigating the St. Louis Cardinals baseball club for hacking into the information database of the competitor club Houston Astros.
“[We] are aware of the investigation into the security breach of the Houston Astros’ database,” the Saint Louis Cardinals said in a statement on Tuesday. “The team has fully cooperated with the investigation and will continue to do so.”
Major League Baseball (MLB) issued a statement saying they too are aware and have fully cooperated with the investigation into the illegal breach of the Astros’ operations.
“Once the investigative process has been completed by federal law enforcement officials, we will evaluate the next steps and will make decisions promptly,” MLB said in the statement.
The authorities have issued subpoenas for members of the Saint Louis Cardinals’ front office, according to media reports.
The Cardinals’ General Manager John Mozeliak has declined to comment on the investigation.
