NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Additional patrols will be deployed to monitor New York City churches following Wednesday’s deadly shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, a New York City Police Department (NYPD) spokesperson told Sputnik in a statement on Thursday.
“As a preliminary precautionary measure, the NYPD has notified the Patrol Services Bureau, as well as our Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Bureaus, to pay special attention to any church locations throughout the city,” the statement read. “[Resources] will conduct special-attention and directed-patrol coverage as deemed appropriate on a citywide basis.”
On Wednesday, nine people were killed at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina after gunman opened fire.
Police has described the suspect as a 21-year-old male and arrested his shortly after the incident.
