BALI (Indonesia) (Sputnik) – At least four people died and 11 went missing after a cliff collapsed in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta, Java island, Jakarta Post reported on Friday citing local police chief.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, when hundreds of people gathered for the Padusan ritual, a traditional cleansing before Ramadan fasting month. The cliff fell onto dozens of nearby visitors.
“The number of people who have not yet returned home from the beach as of now is 11, as reported by relatives,” police head said as quoted by the newspaper.
Currently, a joint rescue team consisting of the Gunungkidul and Yogyakarta search and rescue agencies, as well as police and Indonesian National Armed Forces continue to search for victims.
