"I think that Ukrainian authorities have come to a dead end and have no idea how to solve this military conflict," Miloslav Ransdorf said while on a two-day visit to Crimea.
The member of the European Parliament for the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia pointed out that Kiev should focus on recovering and stabilizing the economy and bringing peace to the war-torn regions of the country.
Solving the Ukrainian conflict could be problematic since it serves a very specific purpose, according to the politician.
The United States is trying to make everything possible to prevent Germany, or more broadly the European Union, and Russia from becoming strategic partners, Format A3 quoted Ransdorf as saying. A war must return to Europe to address this challenge, according to the politician.
"We need the EU to counterbalance the US and its totalitarian trend. It is Europe that remains a space of freedom. The United States has chosen to destroy global politics and undermine international law," the Czech politician said.
Kiev authorities launched the military operation in Ukraine's eastern regions in April 2014 to suppress local independence supporters who refused to recognize a government that rose to power as a result of the February 2014 coup.
The war has left over 6,100 people killed and 15,474 wounded.
