According to various reports, a surveillance aircraft operated by ISIL was shot down by Iraqi troops as it was flying over the Hamrin Mountains, 60 miles south of Kirkuk, FARS news agency said in a report.
The drone was brought down after the two sides exchanged heavy gunfire for hours.
The ISIL terrorists, who currently control shrinking swathes of Syria and Iraq, pose a deadly threat to the local communities of Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Ezadi Kurds as they continue their reign of terror in the occupied parts of the country.
The Iraqi authorities blame Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and several other Gulf Arab states for the growing terrorism in their country.
ISIL has links with Saudi intelligence and is believed to be indirectly supported by Israel, the Iranian news agency said.
