NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Police responded to shots fired close to a campus of a university in Boston, Massachusetts State Police Department stated on the microblog Twitter.

The footbridge is located less than a mile from the campus of Boston University.
“[The man] ran up the walkway and the officers were telling him to ‘Drop the knife!’… He didn’t drop the knife,” former Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis, who witnessed the incident, told the Boston Globe in a telephone interview.
The man was wanted on outstanding warrants, according to media reports.
Boston University is the fourth-largest independent university in the United States with an enrolment of 33,421 students.
