BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — On Sunday, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras put forward what his office dubbed a final proposal to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
"These proposals are currently being discussed and assessed by [EU] institutions," Margaritis Schinas told reporters.
Schinas did not reveal the content of the proposals by the Greek government.
Earlier in the day, an emergency summit of Eurozone countries on the Greek debt crisis kicked off in Brussels.
Greece's overall debt is estimated to stand at about $350 billion. The country's largest lenders are the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the European Central Bank.
Athens needs to agree on a package of economic reforms to secure more than $8 billion in extra funding from creditors or default on its $1.8-billion IMF loan repayment, due this month.
