Threats of Islamic, Right-Wing Extremism Should Receive Equal Attention

Both domestic right-wing violence and Islamic extremism must be addressed by the US government but should not be compared, the press office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) told Sputnik on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — Earlier in June, The New America Foundation updated data on deadly assaults by right-wing extremists in the United States, pointing out that right-wing attackers took the lives of 48 US citizens since 2001, while jihadists killed 26 US nationals over the same period.

“Right-wing extremism in the United States is a serious threat, and one that needs to be treated as such by the government, the media, and society. Islamic extremism is also a serious threat, however, and we should not let these threats compete with each other for our attention,” the ADL's press office said.

It added that the US government should equally address all threats of extremist violence.

In February 2015, the US Department of Homeland Security issued an intelligence assessment report warning of a growing right-wing domestic violence threat.

The report disclosed that some US law enforcement agencies view the threat of domestic terrorists as equal to foreign terrorist groups, including the Islamic State, according to media.
