NEW YORK (Sputnik) — On June 12, 2015, New York State Police launched a manhunt for Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, after authorities at the maximum-security prison discovered they were missing.
“State Police have developed evidence in our search area that the suspects may be headed north toward Canada,” Guess said.
Guess added that the evidence was discovered in a cabin near the Canadian border, but he could not confirm exactly what the evidence was.
The Clinton Correctional Facility prison from which the two convicted murderers escaped is located about 25 miles south of the Canadian border.
New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has offered a $100,000 reward for any information pertaining to the whereabouts of the two murderers.
Matt and Sweat escaped through a series of elaborate tunnels with the use of power tools, officials said.
