Yassin Salhi, a van driver suspected of beheading his boss and launching a failed suicide-bomber styled attack at a gas factory, appeared "confused" on Sunday as he admitted the killing and cited personal problems, a French newspaper said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Le Figaro quoted its sources as saying the 35-year-old gave his first testimony on Sunday. Salhi confessed to murdering his boss, Herve Cornara, in a parking lot an hour before he drove to the Air Products factory in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier near Lyon.

According to the paper’s sources, the father-of-three said he had problems with his family and at work, but investigators suspect his links to Islamists could be the main reason for the attacks.

One Killed, Several Injured in Alleged Islamist Attack in France – Reports
Media reports on Saturday cited investigators as saying the man had made selfies with Cornara’s severed head and sent one to a WhatsApp account in Canada.

He then drove to the gas factory and rammed the van into a warehouse that contained inflammables, triggering a blast that failed to hurt anyone.

Friday’s attack returned France to its highest state of alert after a string of Islamist-related murders in and around Paris in January 2015.
