David Sweat, one of the prisoners who escaped a maximum-security prison in New York on June 6 along with Richard Matt, has been taken into custody after being shot by police who have been searching for Sweat for three weeks. Matt was killed on a Friday during a shootout with police.

The other prison escapee Richard Matt was killed by police on Friday in a remote area of the Malone town in Franklin County, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo confirmed during a press briefing earlier in the day.
Malone is located approximately 10 miles south of the Canadian border in the US state of New York. Police believed the inmates intended to cross US-Canada border.
On June 12, New York State Police launched a manhunt for Matt, 48, and Sweat, 34, after authorities at the maximum-security Clinton Correctional Facility discovered they were missing on June 6.
Both of them are considered "extremely" dangerous to the public. Matt was serving a sentence of 25 years for kidnapping a man and beating him to death, while Sweat was convicted of first degree murder of a sheriff's deputy and was serving a life sentence without parole.
