MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko – On Saturday, Athens announced a July 5 referendum to ask voters to decide whether to accept a new bailout deal offered by the country's international creditors in exchange for unpopular austerity measures.
"Hungary is not a member of the Eurozone. We obviously follow what is happening in Greece in the European Union, we all respect the free will of the Greek people for referendum," Kovacs said.
Economic crisis-hit Greece owes billions of euros to its international lenders.
The country has been in talks with its creditors, trying to secure a new bailout deal, and was offered deeply unpopular austerity reforms in exchange, and negotiations have failed. The current deal expires Tuesday midnight.
If the sides do not reach an agreement, Greece may default on its debt and be forced to exit the Eurozone.
