Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood told Sputnik that she is against the TTIP because of its 'Orwellian' reach and the secrecy surrounding the negotiations.
Westwood is a member of Artists Against TTIP, a growing group which seeks to raise awareness of the looming treaty and the implications it would have for people across Europe. According to the group, the agreement would amount to a transfer of political power from democratically elected governments to large corporations under a guise of a reduction in "barriers to trade."
"If you visit the WikiLeaks website you will see that what is happening is not just the proposed partnership between Europe and America. But America has got all of these other partnerships which cover almost the whole world. That means that disagreement will be shared by the major part of the world," Westwood said.
"This is an addition to the danger that is this Orwellian world where you've always got to have an enemy as well. But nevertheless you control most of the world, and the other part you control by making it your enemy!" Westwood added.
