BERLIN (Sputnik) — Varoufakis announced his resignation on Monday, a day after more than 61 percent of Greek voters rejected in a referendum the proposals of the country's creditors over the financial aid in exchange for economic austerity measures.
"We must wait and see whether there will be a specific proposal from Greece," Annen told the German Inforadio.
The politician added that Varoufakis' statements made it clear that his participation in further talks on the country's debt settlement would only complicate them.
Greece's total debt is $350 billion, including some $270 billion the country owes to its main international creditors, the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and some Eurozone countries.
On June 30, Athens failed to transfer a loan repayment to the IMF in the amount of $1.7 billion before the expiry of the bailout program.
Several rounds of talks between Greece and its lenders on the country's debt settlement had been held before the government of the country decided to hold a snap-referendum.
