WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In March 2015, Clinton and her team were accused of lack of transparency after The New York Times reported she used a personal e-mail address for official business during her four year tenure as US secretary of state from January 2009 to January 2013.
“This is being blown up with no basis in law or fact,” Clinton told CNN on Tuesday. “This is in effect being used by the Republicans in Congress.”
Clinton noted that previous secretaries of state had also used their own personal e-mails.
She said she had decided to release 55,000 personal e-mail pages to the State Department because she wanted to go above and beyond what was expected of her.
“And those 55,000 pages, they will be released over the course of this year,” Clinton said. “People can again make their own judgment.”
Clinton said the use of her personal e-mail for official government work was permitted and there were no laws or regulations forbidding such practice.
