TOKYO (Sputnik) — According to the Ministry, the total number of 186 MERS cases remains unchanged since July 5. Currently, 811 people in the country remain on quarantine.
The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is a viral respiratory disease caused by the MERS-coronavirus. The infection was first identified in 2012 in Saudi Arabia and subsequently spread to other countries.
In South Korea the virus outbreak started in May.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), some 36 percent of reported patients with MERS have died. There currently is no vaccine or specific treatment against MERS.
