WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US companies should take part in privatization of Ukrainian state-owned businesses, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said at US-Ukraine Business Forum in Washington, DC, on Monday.
“We ask American business to participate in a large scale privatization of Ukrainian state-owned enterprises,” Yatsenyuk said.
Yatsenyuk added that key areas for future Ukraine-US cooperation include agriculture, energy and infrastructure.
“Please, American investors jump in,” Yatsenyuk said. “We are happy to see you in Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian government has already passed a number of resolutions that opened privatization of energy companies, some chemical plants and electricity grid generation companies, the prime minister said.
Yatsenyuk argued the goal of the Ukraine’s government is to create a strong economy, bring Ukrainian people back to work and increase wages.
The conflict between Kiev forces and independence supporters in the country's east erupting in mid-April last year has left Ukraine on the verge of a default, while the country's currency, the hryvnia, has sharply dropped since 2014.
