MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Police arrested a suspect on Sunday in the murder of five people whose bodies have been found in the southwest US state of California earlier.
The Modesto Police Department discovered five bodies inside a local residence Saturday after receiving a phone call requesting a welfare check on the home in the city’s residential neighbourhood.
“Martin Martinez has been booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder,” the police department said in a statement.
It identified the five victims as three girls, aged from six months to six years, and two women.
“Detectives have established that all the victims are related,” the police said, adding that Martinez is the biological father of one of the deceased children.
The Modest Police Department did not disclose the motive or the cause of death at the time, but said it was in the final stages of processing the crime scene.
